Summer Enterprise: An Idea In Motion

In February, I spent 10 days in Liverpool on family vacation. I hosted TheLifeCourse for the second time. I challenged a group of 40+ young people at DCLM to lead change and live a purposeful, God-intended life. I blogged about my experience in the post: “What I Have Learnt In 2 Weeks”. You really should take a look at it (again).

On the finale of the 2-week session, I shared with the group my vision of what I term The Summer Enterprise Initiative:

  • Any young person can come up with a viable business idea that requires minimal investment.
  • Propose the idea to a panel of youth leaders.
  • Successful proposals get a small amount of money to execute their idea over summer (not more than £100 for an idea).
  • In 4 months, repay the capital invested.
  • Keep entire profit or reinvest it.  100% profit belongs to the youth once capital is repaid in 4 months. How about that for an incentive!

That was 4 months ago…

This Sunday, the youth group in Liverpool will kick off their first Summer Enterprise Idea Showcase. The youths are itching to pitch their enterprise proposals. You need to see the grin on my face! I’m buzzing. It’s exciting to see ideas evolve and people passionate about what you’re passionate about.

I am passionate about youth enterprise. Why? Because young people need life skills to win in life. I am hoping (and praying) that through this experience, they will learn about people management, living below their means, effective communication, giving, managing money and more importantly about GOD – the GREATEST ENTREPRENEUR.

I am looking forward to the outcome this Sunday and the months ahead. I have no doubt this process will change lives. I have confidence in the young leaders facilitating the initiative. I know them well; they will pull this one off!

I look forward to sharing the success stories with you in the coming months.

Question: Have you been inspired by this story and want to encourage the youngsters and leaders in DCLM Liverpool as they embark on this life-changing journey? Leave a comment in the box.

  1. Regardless of where it takes place, your statement of “young people need life skills to win at life” could be shared across the world.  We are significantly lacking this critical sentiment – thanks for expressing it, and sharing it with others.

    1. Thanks David. Much appreciated. We need to keep inspiring a generation (and ourselves in the process)
