Resolve: The Journey Begins With You is an adapted excerpt from the second chapter of my new book, which I’m pleased to share with you. It’s about my first experience of resolve, based on an experience I had thirteen years ago.

A long, lonely walk

I remember taking a long, lonely walk through my neighborhood sometime in 2000. I was talking to myself, praying, crying and asking God questions about my life, sufferings and how (or rather if) anything around me made sense…

Why did I have to borrow a uniform to write my final exams? Why did I become homeless at 17 when my friends had it awesome? Why do I have to live in a slum for this long, with cockroaches and rats vying for the little space with me? Why is my life like this? This wasn’t this dream of my life. This wasn’t the life I envisioned, Lord. Will my dream of becoming the first child of my mother to attain university education ever come through?

Questions after questions! I didn’t care if anyone heard me (desperation knows how to shut out the world around you).

My first resolve moment

It was nearly 10pm and it wasn’t my first of such walks but this time was different. The tears wouldn’t stop as the pain lingered longer than other nights.

Then I heard God speak to me (that night remains vivid on my heart even as I write these words): 

“I will change your situation and your life (and story) will give others hope”

Those words changed my life. That night, I made my first resolve – never to give up.

The journey begins with you

Resolve is firmness or determination of purpose. It’s an unquestionable ingredient you need to pursue your dreams.

I believe in the power of a dream, the power of God-inspired purpose. But you cannot go far in life without a strong determination to see that dream through. Remember:
