In the End, Nothing Else Matters
I have a school run routine with my children — we typically turn up the volume in the car as we singalong to our Spotify collection. It’s our daily morning highlight.
On a recent morning school run, I was reminded that nothing else REALLY matters in the end apart from GOD, as we listened to Nothing Else by Cody Carnes. Not what He gives, but Himself.

As we sang along, reflected and talked about the implications of the song on our walk with God, there was a real sense of God’s presence in the car.
"I'm caught up in Your presence I just want to sit here at Your feet I'm caught up in this holy moment I never wanna leave."
What is the longing of your heart?
Some years ago, I wrote a post about the need for us to pursue and desire God or nothing. This song reminded (and reminds) me that nothing else really matters but God.
We must stop seeing God as a means to get to a place called heaven — God is MORE than heaven. Without Him, we can have no eternal joy! // In the End, Nothing Else Matters Click To TweetLet me explain what I mean. Of course, heaven is a real place where we will get to spend eternity in God’s presence in our spiritual body.
However, there’s the danger of ‘using’ God as a means to simply get to heaven without desiring Him for who He is in the present.
In Psalm 42:1-2, we are challenged to follow hard after God as the deer goes for the flowing stream. Is this the longing of your heart? If not, how could anything else matter more to you?
Not here for blessings
The Christian life is a personal relationship with God, made possible through the atoning work of Christ, enabled by the conviction and sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit.
It’s a life-long and progressive journey for more of God in our lives each day. Our thirst must reflect a deep passion to possess and make much of God, not the things He gives.
"Oh, I'm not here for blessings Jesus, You don't owe me anything More than anything that You can do I just want You"
We must not reduce our devotion to God to receiving His blessings. Sometimes, we must simply come before His presence with the disposition of ‘not here for the blessing’ because ‘Jesus, You don’t owe me anything’.
When we grasp the true essence of God’s sovereignty and providence, we soon realise He doesn’t owe us anything. Yet we know He’s gracious and blesses us beyond measure.
Let’s seek Him. In the end, nothing else matters.
