Living Out a Life of Faith — Part 1

From Joseph: This week, I’m featuring a guest post by Gori Olusina Daniel about leadership lessons on living out a life of faith. More on Gori at the end of the post. If you’d like to feature a guest post on The Story of Hope, you can find my guidance here.

God calls us to live a life of faith

“But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” — Heb 11:6.

In this new series; we explore fundamental truths that set out why God calls us to live a life of faith and how living out a life of faith makes us unstoppable as we develop the courage and conviction to fulfil our purpose and potential.

God calls us all to live a life of faith.

“God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. [c.f. Ps. 104:30; Heb. 1:2; 11:3.]” — Genesis 1:26 AMP.

8 foundational truths about living a life of faith

  1. It all starts with GOD: Christ followers believe that the Almighty God is the One that initiated all that we have come to know and refer to as the world, the galaxies and the heavens (Psalm 24.1-2; John 1:1-3).
  2. Creator GOD: We believe that God’s power is all encompassing and He retains control over the creative order (Job 37:3-24).
  3. God cannot be contained: He is beyond description. To attempt to describe Him reveals not His limits but ours. He cannot be contained, and is capable of much more than we can conceive; and we do well to approach Him with an openness to listen, learn and discover more of all that is possible. (Ezekiel 37:1-3)

  4. Discovering purpose: We approach God not to find God, but to find and understand ourselves (Acts 17:28).
  5. God seeks us: But as we do this, we should know that He is the initiator and solution to our desire and need for Him, and He does this, as His principal purpose for creating humankind was to have a special relationship that would serve, maintain and sustain His creative order.
  6. Disconnecting destroys: Everything that is wrong in our world today derives from our tendency to use our gifts, talents, resources and influence, out of the purposes of God.
  7. Jesus changed everything: Jesus came to change all that by showing us the way back to living life as God intended.

  8. God equips the called: God has uniquely identified us with gifts, talents and resources, and calls us to discover and deploy these in the context of His plans and purposes for our lives, our families, our community and our world.

Key questions to ponder

  • How many of us are on this path?
  • What purpose drives our strivings?
  • What is the purpose of our pursuit, programs and much persevering?
  • What values shape our lives?
  • What force will make us unstoppable as we commit to living out our potential and achieve all God has called us to achieve?

God created mankind to serve, maintain and sustain his creative order; and empowered us all with capabilities, strengths, resources and talents, which He expects us to discover and deploy as we grow in our faith and relationship with Him.

In subsequent editions, we will focus on what faith is, how to live out a life of faith, and how living a life of faith is critical to fulfilling your purpose and potential.
