Let’s Get To Work

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”
1 Corinthians 3:6

We often read that verse and conclude “Well, it’s all down to God!”
That’s true and I believe it. But there’s a part B to it. In a sense, it’s ultimately up to God to bring growth and increase. But I’ve also learned something else in my sojourn. As I read this verse again tonight, it suddenly dawned on me (again) that both the planting and the watering are as important as the growth that God brings. Will God yield increase? Yes! Yet He beckons us to plant and water. To me, that’s amazing. And that’s the part B.

What vision, cause and purpose are you committed to planting and/or watering? What have you decided to do to ensure you don’t waste your life in 2012? It’s already Day 5! Maybe you’re called to engage, lead and deliver (planting). Maybe you’re called to support, serve and sustain (watering). Whichever and whatever you feel you’re moved to do this year to add value to lives and hence fulfil your purpose, just do it.

People will tell you you can’t do it. Some will give you every ‘legitimate’ reason why you won’t succeed. But don’t bow to their pressure. Some of them simply can’t handle the fact you’re pursuing the very assignment they failed to pursue. Some simply just don’t get it. Harbour no hard feelings for them, just keep running. Don’t slow your pace now, the race for the year has just started.

Majority of those that told me to quit my ‘unrealistic and unachievable’ ambitions in life were those closest to me at the time, people I trusted and looked up to for the needed support. But they meant well, though they just couldn’t see beyond the cloud of impossibility over that season of my life. I simply refused to give up. Don’t give up, no matter the challenge. We can do this; together, hand in hand, side by side, we will win.

You ask, “How can you be so sure, Joseph?”
Go back to the top of the post and read the verse again… finished reading it?
Here’s why I know we will make it: there’s One who is compelled to bring the increase and growth when we plant and water. He (God) has no choice, neither does any opposition! So let’s get to work!!!
