When Weakness Becomes Good News

Christian faith is a progressive discovery; a daily discovery of man’s fallibility and God’s unlimited grace. God’s grace shines brightly in our weakness (not sin). Hence Paul wrote:

…Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. (2 Corinthians 12:9, 10 ESV)
THE DILEMMA
As a man in need of a daily dose of God’s divine help (GRACE), I experience moments of weakness like Paul described. Some days simply do not spark passion. Some days feel like they were custom-made with dryness and laced with the mundane (Oh how I long for better days everyday!). Do you relate?
THE HOPE
Better days are a reality! Hence I’ve been praying for it in recent days. Here’s how:
“Lord, I don’t want to be a cosmetic Christian. Break me > Shape me > Mould me > Make me. Lord, I would be useless without your daily renewal of grace on my life. I’m so desperate to experience you anew each day. Don’t leave me where I am; there has to be more and I want MORE!”
Did you pray as you read those words? If you did, that assures me I’m not alone. But more importantly, it means together, we are on the journey to spiritual renewal and more God (and personal) discoveries.
THE GOOD NEWS
So how does weakness become good news in all of this? Paul gives us an insight again:
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”… For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:9, 10 ESV)
God’s beauty, strength and power is gloriously displayed in and through us when we submit to Him in our season of weakness. John Piper and his Desiring God ministry captures it perfectly with their vision tag line:
“God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him”
Today’s Action: Pray the prayer in this post with purpose and intention. Ask God to revive your soul everyday and fill you with strength for your spiritual journey.
