Discovering And Pursuing Purpose

All of life is to be lived for something. I have so often heard people come to me and say, “I don’t have a purpose and I don’t see any need for one. I don’t believe I am here for any reason, I will live, die and go my way”
Hmm… Do you REALLY believe you’re an accident? Do you REALLY think for a second that you were just a mere product of your parents? Do you REALLY want to convince yourself that all of life is empty? It is not impossible that parents make ‘mistakes’ and conceive at the ‘wrong time’. But listen to this; “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you…” Jeremiah 1:5.
That was God speaking to Prophet Jeremiah. He once stood where you either stand today or stood before. He once was oblivious of his purpose. Jeremiah once stood with you and beside you. You are not alone.

Life is comprised of three groups of people; those who know their purpose in life and are living it, those who know their purpose and aren’t living it, and those who have no clue. Where do stand today? Your experiences do not necessarily change the reality of life. The fact that you don’t believe or know your God-intended purpose today does not mean you don’t have one. The tragedy of life is such that if you fail to discover the reason for your living, you will end up wasting your life. If you fail to discover your purpose in life, someone else will give you activities that will occupy you to no gain. Simple as that.

Your purpose will shape the choices you make.

Let me share a bit of what keeps me going:

my overarching purpose is to please God in every way and love Him with a contagious passion that will draw others to stand in awe of God. How do I live that out? I’m passionate about raising the next generation of leaders, promoting excellence and giving others a platform to discover and pursue their God-intended purpose. That’s why I write. That’s why I lead and facilitate The Life Course. That’s why I blog. That’s why I work. That’s why I serve in a local church. That’s why I coach young leaders. That’s why I mentor young people. That’s who I am.

Let’s come back to you. Now, what are you living for? While preparing to speak at a church in London in 2011, I heard God say to me; “Your secular job is not your purpose; I gave you that job as an enabler to help you keep pursuing the real reason I created you” That experience changed my life. And I want to say to you that whatever you’re doing today to earn a living, your education or your marriage are only enablers. Don’t mistake them for your purpose. To discover your divine purpose, you must pursue God. When you do, you will discover how He wants you to influence change in your world.

Don’t accept a lie that says you’re insignificant. Don’t live a fantasy that assumes that life is a game. Don’t settle for less; keep pushing until you discover what we were wired for. Keep pushing until you unpacked the bag of potentials God gave you when He formed you. Keep pushing until you discover your purpose in life and begin to pursue it. I repeat, don’t settle for less. You are too important to God to allow your life to waste. You are too important to the world to waste your presence. We need you; but first, discover yourself.

What’s the one significant step you take everyday towards achieving purpose?
